Eligibility

To be considered for either an Brock University Scholarship (OGS) or QEII-GSST award, a student must be:

  • A Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) at the time of the application deadline.
  • Enrolled at a publicly-assisted university in Ontario in a full-time program of study that leads to a graduate degree and is approved for operating grant purposes by the ministry; and Enrolled in 60% or more of a full course load as defined by the university, or 40% or more for students with permanent disabilities. In addition, to be considered for a QEII-GSST award, a student must be:
  • Enrolled in a research masters or doctoral program in a science and technology discipline (see Appendix One for a list of eligible science and technology disciplines). International students who are studying in Ontario with a study permit under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) are eligible for the allotted Brock University Scholarship international student awards. However, they are ineligible for QEII-GSST awards. For ministry purposes, institutions should ensure the requirement that the student have a valid study permit is satisfied before award funding is issued to the student. However, institutions have discretion to develop more stringent criteria on when the study permit should be provided.
  • Students entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline must have achieved a first-class average, as determined by the host institution, in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent). Students entering the third year or beyond of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline must have an overall average of at least A- (or equivalent) on all graduate courses completed.
  • If masters or doctoral degree marks used for calculating an applicants grade point average (GPA) are not available (e.g., courses were graded on a pass-fail basis), then the university Graduate Studies Office will use the most recently available undergraduate or graduate marks to calculate a students GPA.

Benefits

Through the Brock University Scholarship Program, students can receive an award $15,000 a year. The majority of the financial aid positions will be awarded for three terms. One-term awards are not granted at Brock University.

How to Apply?

  • To apply for the program, aspirants will have to take admission in the university Brock University Scholarship (OGS) graduate program. After that, applicants can complete the application for this funding program at the university.
  • Supporting Documents: Students must provide admission based on unofficial documents.
  • Transcripts — all official undergraduate and graduate transcripts showing you are currently registered are required along with one copy of the transcript legend
  • Referees – Most programs require a minimum of two academic references

  • Submission of the academic report and letter of support must be submitted by the deadline date set above.
  • Admission Requirements: Students must check all the entry requirements of Brock University.
  • Language Requirement:  The applicants are required to attain minimum scores in the following English language proficiency tests:
  • TOEFL: iBT Minimum overall score of 80, with no subtest below 19
  • IELTS: (Academic) Minimum overall score of 6.5, with no subtest below 5.5
  • CAEL: minimum overall score of 60, with 60 in writing and no other subtest below 50
  • CAEL CE (Computer Edition): Minimum overall score of 60, with 60 in writing and no other subtest below 50
  • PTE Academics: Minimum overall score of 60, with no subtest below 60
  • Can Test for Scholars and Trainees: Minimum overall score of 4.5, with no subtest below 4.0
