    The oldest of Columbia Institution’s undergraduate colleges, Columbia College, is located in the Manhattan borough of Morningside Heights on the main campus of the university. It was established in 1754 as King’s College by the Church of England with the help of a royal licence from King George II of Great Britain. It is the fifth-oldest university in the United States and the oldest in the state of New York.

    Housing on campus is a four-year commitment for Columbia College students. Residence halls are either either on the Morningside Heights main campus or within 10 blocks of the 116th Street gate, and they also accommodate undergraduate engineering students at Columbia. First-year students are accommodated in John Jay, Carman, Wallach, Hartley, and Furnald Halls on the central quad.

    Ferris Booth Commons and John Jay Eating Hall are the two primary dining options, and a full meal plan is required for all freshman. On the Morningside Heights campus, there are additional food options in Alfred Lerner Hall, Uris Hall, and the freshly renovated student centre.
