Eckerd College Scholar Awards, USA 2022-23

For the academic year 2022-2023, Eckerd College has made the decision to grant overseas students who demonstrate academic and/or creative distinction through its International Student Scholarships and Aid programme.

This award is open to all overseas first-year applicants who need a visa to study in the United States and have not completed any college or university courses. A reward of up to $22,000 will be given to the recipients of the scholarships.

    In St. Petersburg, Florida, there is a private liberal arts institution called Eckerd College. Part of the campus, which was established in 1958, is situated on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay. Eckerd University, which has a marine search and rescue team made up entirely of student volunteers, is known as a “beach school” because to its location.

    Eckerd College is a national liberal arts college that holds accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It belongs to the Annapolis and Oberlin groupings. There are more than forty majors available at Eckerd College, or students can create their own concentrations. Eckerd College is accredited to grant bachelor’s degrees in the humanities, sciences, and fine arts.

    Regardless of their concentration, all students complete four years of coursework in a wide range of subjects, including the arts, literature, and the scientific and social sciences.     The 4-1-4 academic calendar was invented by Eckerd College, with the “1” standing for the Winter Term in January, when each student concentrates on a single class and frequently studies abroad. Students in almost all majors must either pass a senior-year comprehensive test or finish a senior thesis assignment in order to graduate. In their senior year, every student is required to take a senior seminar course.

    All undergraduate students have access to research opportunities, such as first-year research associateships, the Ford Apprentice Scholars Program, honour societies, an honours programme, and an annual research symposium because there are no graduate programmes.

    The Eckerd College Dolphin Effort, the world’s oldest undergraduate-focused dolphin research programme, and D.A.R.W.I.N., a computer science project to automate dolphin dorsal fin detection, are notable initiatives. St. Petersburg is home to a USGS facility that offers additional research options.

    A $6.7 million grant was given to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in 2021 to design and build a new Marine Mammal Pathobiology Lab on the Eckerd campus to complement the one that is already owned and run by the FWC on Eckerd land just outside the college’s gates.

    Among the nationally renowned honour organisations at Eckerd College are Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. Teams from the Ethics Bowl have regularly won intercollegiate competition, taking home the title seven years in a row (2004–2011).

    With the help of scholarships, students can study abroad, notably at the Eckerd College Study Centre on Gower Street in London. The average distance students travel to attend Eckerd is 1,000 miles; they come from around 48 states and 35 other countries. Additionally, Eckerd provides short-term English immersion courses in a special campus building.

    The applicants selected by the Eckerd College to be awarded this scholarship will be awarded an International Student Grant of up to $22,000. Students may also additionally be awarded a grant of up to $2,000 in work-earned money.
