Who we are: The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung is the oldest political foundation in Germany. It is named after Friedrich Ebert , the first democratically elected head of state in German history. As a political foundation, we base our work on the basic values of social democracy: freedom, justice and solidarity. As a non-profit institution, we act independently and would like to promote pluralistic social dialogue on the political challenges of the present.
We see ourselves as part of the social democratic community of values and the trade union movement in Germany and around the world. With our work at home and abroad, we help people to participate in shaping their societies and to stand up for social democracy.
Around 670 employees are committed to our mission statement at the headquarters in Bonn and Berlin, in 15 state and regional offices nationwide – locations in Germany – and in more than 100 foreign representations – locations internationally .
