Hanns Eisler was born in Leipziger Hofmeisterstraße 14, lower ground floor left. The house was purchased by an investor in 2015 after a long period of degradation. It was preserved from decay as a result of this, and the apartments have since been refurbished and sold.

In order to provide Hanns Eisler memory a home, the LEIPZIG STIFTUNG rented the flat to the Eisler-Haus Leipzig e.V. in the second half of 2016, which will utilise it in conjunction with the City of Leipzig for the Composer in Residence programme.
