The SEFS International Undergraduate Scholarship in Ireland has been announced by University College Cork. The grant application period is underway for the academic year 2022/2023.

This programme was created to assist international students who wish to enrol in the university’s undergraduate programme.

    University College Cork, a component university of the National University of Ireland, is based in Cork.

    The institution began as one of three Queen’s Colleges in Belfast, Cork, and Galway in 1845. Under the Irish Universities Act of 1908, it was renamed University College, Cork. The university was designated National University of Ireland, Cork by the Universities Act of 1997, and by a Ministerial Order of 1998, it was renamed University College Cork – National University of Ireland, Cork, however it is still virtually widely known as University College Cork.

    The university has been selected Irish University of the Year by The Sunday Times on five occasions, the most recent being in 2017. UCC was also rated top performing institution by the European Commission-funded U-Multirank system in 2015, based on receiving the highest number of “A” scores (21 out of 28 criteria) among 1200 universities that participated. In 2011, UCC became the first institution to obtain the ISO 50001 energy management standard.

    University College Cork (UCC) had 21,000 students as of 2016. There were 15,000 undergraduate students, 4,400 postgraduate students, and 2,800 adult continuing education students spanning undergraduate, postgraduate, and short courses. 2,800 academic, research, and administrative professionals assist the student body. According to reports, UCC had 150,000 alumni globally as of 2017.

    University College Cork has been ranked by a variety of organisations, including the Sunday Times, which named it “Irish University of the Year” in 2003, 2005, 2011, and 2016, and was a runner-up in 2015.

    In 2015, the European Commission-funded U-Multirank system ranked UCC the highest performing university in a field of 1200 universities, based on a high number of “A” scores (21 out of 28 measures). In 2015, UCC was ranked first in Ireland, 16th in Europe, and 52nd overall in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, which included 750 universities.

    UCC received a 5-star rating from the QS World University Rankings in 2011, placing it among the top 2% of universities worldwide. In the 2014 edition of the QS World University Rankings, UCC was rated 230th. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015 listed 13 of its subject areas (up from 10 in 2014), including the Pharmacy & Pharmacology disciplines, which were among the top 50 worldwide.

    How to Apply

    • How to Apply: Students must complete and submit their admission applications via the UCC Application of the university. All eligible students will be considered automatically awarded the scholarship.
    • Supporting Documents: The students must submit academic records, CV, copy of passport, two references, and recommendation letters.
    •  Admission Requirements: Applicants must have a high school certificate with outstanding academic achievement for taking admission.
    • Language Requirement: Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of equivalent competence in the English Language through their school-leaving examination or matriculation examination or by achieving the minimum standard in a recognised English language test, as specified below. Specific tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, and Pearson PTE).
