In Gloucestershire, England, there is a public institution called the University of Gloucestershire. It is spread across three campuses—Francis Close Hall, The Park, Oxstalls, and The Centre for Art and Photography—two of which are in Cheltenham and one of which is in Gloucester. Francis Close Hall is nearby. With a new campus set to open there in 2023, the university bought the old Debenhams store in Gloucester City Centre in March 2021.

The two independent strands of educational provision in Gloucestershire—provided by local government and that established by the Anglican Church—were combined to create it. The Cheltenham Mechanics’ Institute, founded in 1834, and the Cheltenham Training College, founded by the Reverend Francis Close in 1847, are where the university may trace its oldest civic origins.
From the two separate strands, Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education was born in 1990. The college received university status in October 2001.

- The university will provide tuition fees, a maintenance grant (currently £16,000 over 15 months), and a training grant of up to £500 for full-time students.
