UiA PhD Research Fellowships, Norway 2022-23

Do you need financial assistance to finish your education? Then the UiA PhD Research Fellowships in Marine Microbial Ecology offered by the University of Agder (UiA) are the perfect chance for you. The application period for the academic year 2022–2023 is currently open.

The microbial communities in this ford and coastal ecosystem will undergo changes, and these changes causes will be the main focus of the PhD thesis. To detect microbial organisms and possibly also microbial functions, molecular genetic methods will be applied.

    A public university with campuses in Kristiansand and Grimstad, Norway, is called the University of Agder (UiA), formerly known as Agder College and Agder University College. The Agder University College and five other institutions, including a technical college and a nursing school, were merged to create the institution in 1994 as a university college, and it was given the status of a complete university in 2007.

    There is shared leadership at UiA. The faculty, staff, and students elect the rector, who serves as the chief executive officer of the university board and is in charge of the academic programmes and extracurricular activities. As the head of administration, the university director is in charge of both financial and administrative matters.

    The six public regional colleges in the Agder counties were merged into one institution in 1994, creating Agder University College. On September 1st, 2007, The University College obtained complete collegiate accreditation and changed its name to The University of Agder (UiA).

    Eligibility For UiA Fellowship

    • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
    • Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree in marine microbial ecology.
    • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
    • Marine fieldwork experience
    • Laboratory measurements related to seawater and plankton samples
    • Molecular ecology-related laboratory techniques
    • Bioinformatic competence (e.g. in analyzing genetic, genome or transcriptome data)
    • Driver’s license for car

    • The project description has a full scope of 2 pages, including a reference list. The outline should present and discuss possible research questions, theoretical perspectives and methods within the framework.
    • Admission Requirements: Students must have a master’s degree in marine biology, microbial ecology or a similar/related field. Candidates in the closing stages of their master’s degree can also apply.
    • Language Requirement: International candidates that are not exempt from the English language requirements under the guidelines of the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT) must document this through one of the following tests with the stated results or better:
    • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 600 for the Paper-based Test (PBT) or 92 for the Internet-based Test (iBT)
    • IELTS – International English Language Testing System, with the result of 6.5
