The University of Jember (also located as Unej) is a public university in East Java’s Jember Regency. The State University of Djember, abbreviated as Uned, was founded in 1964 and consisted of five faculties: the Faculty of Law in Jember, with branches in Banyuwangi, the Faculty of Social and Political Affairs and the Faculty of Agriculture in Jember, and the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Letters in Banyuwangi.

Djember State University was renamed Jember State University with the acronym Unej, after the first chancellor, Dr. R. Achmad, and the wording was altered from the previous spelling to the improved spelling (EYD). Although the word “State” is now being removed in order to become the University of Jember, the name Unej has already established associated with the surrounding community and is still used today.
