The National College of Ireland (NCI), also known as Coláiste Náisinta na hÉireann (CNÉ) in Irish, is a state-funded, not-for-profit third-level education institution in Dublin. It was initially known as the Catholic Workers College, Dublin, and was created in 1951 as a collaborative effort between Irish Jesuits and Irish Trade Unions.

It is now an independent institution that offers full and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies in subjects such as psychology, finance, business, and computing. The courses are taught at the IFSC campus in Dublin and at a number of regional locations.

Psychology, human resource management, data analytics, management, cloud computing, fintech, accounting, cybersecurity, education, and finance are among NCI’s specialties. The dot conf digital and web technology conference, the Legends in Your Lunchtime series, the Seven Deadly Skills, In the Psychologists’ Chair, and Marketing Mavericks are just a few of NCI’s free public activities.

The College’s Schools of Business and Computing offer full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computing, business, Early Childhood Education, psychology, data analytics, marketing, digital marketing, cybersecurity, human resource management, cloud computing, accountancy, and finance.

There are also a number of professional development programmes available. The college’s website has a complete list. A number of the college’s programmes were recognised by the state’s National Council for Educational Awards (NCEA), the forerunner of HETAC, in 1976.

In 1998, the National College of Ireland (NCI) was re-branded as the National College of Ireland (NCI), with a larger National Campus Network and a variety of outreach programmes around the country.

The land and buildings at Sandford Road were given to the NCI Board of Management by the Jesuits as the NCI grew.

The Irish government’s Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) has certified the college’s Higher Certificate, Bachelor, Higher Diploma, and Master degrees; however, a number of other short-term courses are unaccredited.

NCI moved to a 0.8-hectare property on Mayor Street in the Dublin Docklands at the turn of the century. The creation of a modern campus, with 53 residential units for 286 students and a new Business and Research Building, was made possible through a €25,000,000 fundraising drive.

In 2009 and 2010, the college hosted the Insight Debate Series, a free debate series organised in collaboration with The Irish Times and Newstalk 106-108 FM radio station. Public figures such as Ben Dunne, Willie Walsh, and Giovanni Trapattoni were interviewed live by a Newstalk host as part of the college’s Legends in Your Lunchtime series.

Denis O’Brien, the College’s head, and Jeffrey Ullman, an emeritus Stanford professor and the winner of the 2020 ACM A.M. Turing Award, launched the NCI’s Cloud Competency Centre in 2012.

In 2021, NCI was accepted into the European Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE).
